Steelers' Hopes Dashed After Dumb Country Club Rumor

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still in pursuit of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. With the 2025 NFL Draft in the rear-view mirror and training camp not too far from the horizon, the clock is ticking on the Steelers to find a quarterback.

Rodgers hasn’t necessarily played ball. He has communicated with the team, gone on a successful visit, and kept the door open for a farewell season. But as the spring grows warmer, Rodgers remains a free agent. According to the quarterback, some things away from the football field deserve his attention and commitment, postponing his decision.

There isn’t anything inherently wrong with that, although it’s given more time for baseless rumors to sprout about his intentions.

One such whisper was circulated on Saturday, suggesting that Rodgers had joined the Nevillewood Country Club near Pittsburgh.

The Steelers’ hopes were temporarily dashed after it became abundantly clear that the Rodgers country club rumor had no substance.

“This rumor is NOT true,” CBS’s Rich Walsh tweeted. “I just spoke with the Club at Nevillewood President Wayne Chiurazzi, who said Aaron Rodgers did not join. The Club would love to have him if he does sign with the Steelers.

“It is true that Nevillewood is a beautiful Pittsburgh suburban golf course.”

Rodgers has been around (and in the spotlight) long enough to learn his tendencies. He’s not giving the inside edge to a Pittsburgh talk show host with a penchant for vastly overrating Steelers players and pushing unsubstantiated claims about their fates.

Hell, even the real newsbreakers might not land this one.

Rodgers is supervillain-esque in his secretiveness. The news will break on his terms, which could very well mean it comes on “The Pat McAfee Show” some afternoon on ESPN. His affinity for McAfee and distaste for big reporters seems to make that more likely.

Pittsburgh doesn’t know if or when Rodgers will sign, but that clock keeps ticking, and each passing day makes it incrementally more improbable that a passer on the wrong side of 40 gears up for a marathon of an NFL season.

When the time comes, Rodgers will let the appropriate channels know. Don’t let bad actors on social media cause you any trouble in the meantime.
