Steelers insider says Pittsburgh believes that it 'doesn't matter' when Aaron Rodgers shows up as the starting quarterback

Tuesday marked exactly two months since the infamous last-minute meeting between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers.

Yet, here we sit less than a week away from the start of OTAs, and the Steelers still haven't put pen to paper with Rodgers.

According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, they aren't worried in the slightest by that...

Steelers believe Aaron Rodgers is a plug and play guy

"I've talked with several Steelers sources this morning and they said it's the status quo," Pyor said on SportsCenter on Monday via transcription by SD. "They continue to remain in communication with Aaron Rodgers and they're still optimistic that they ultimately end up landing him...

"...There is no firm deadline on when he could report and sign with the Steelers. And the Steelers are comfortable with that because they believe that he's a plug-and-play player where it doesn't matter when he shows up. You put him in the lineup and he's gonna be good to go."

Here's the thing, even if Aaron Rodgers had already signed his contract with the Steelers, the odds of him showing up to OTAs and or mandatory minicamp over the next three weeks were never going to be high.

In fact, there is a world where Rodgers hasn't signed for that exact reason. Does that mean he signs the day after OTAs end on June 5th, or after mandtapory minicamp on June 13th? Or perhaps he waits for the Steelers self imposed line of demarcation, which would be the end of july with training camp.

Regardless, the Steelers know that Rodgers is on his own timeline, and I'm sure they have know that ever since they met two months ago...

“It's been reported that he [Aaron Rodgers] spent a day with us, and it was a really good day," said Coach Tomlin at the owners meetings back in April. "Specifically, he and I obviously have known of each other for some time, and so it was really good to spend some time together man and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency. It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.”
