Steelers Insider Shares Feeling of Aaron Rodgers Addition Without Hesitation

Now that Aaron Rodgers has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team can finally shift their focus from the offseason to making a deep playoff run.

The Steelers’ last playoff win was during the 2016 season against the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round, a drought that many fans are really not familiar with. There are plenty of reasons why, such as poor defensive play, lackluster quarterback performances, and simply being out-coached at times.

However, signing a four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer has the potential to change their direction. Despite not being in his peak form last season with the New York Jets, Rodgers proved he can still throw the ball at an elite level.

“I don’t know if Aaron Rodgers has another Super Bowl left in him, but I will tell you this. After waiting around for two and a half months, the Steelers did that for a reason,” Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo said. “And the reason is they think they were missing that type of quarterback in the postseason the last couple of years.”

Rodgers threw for 28 touchdowns last season with 11 interceptions. Russel Wilson and Justin Fields threw for a combined 21 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on the year, with Fields reaching the end zone five times as a runner.

When you add up the numbers, it’s a similar production, but Rodgers plays in a much different way. He unlocks the middle of the field in an offense that rarely used it and he brings a football IQ that you want to have at the end of a close game.

“They won 10 games with Russel Wilson and Justin Fields as their quarterbacks last year,” Fittipaldo said. “I think he’s at least worth one more win, maybe two. So, I think this is now maybe an 11-win team, something along those lines.”

The Steelers scored 21 against the Baltimore Ravens in last season’s playoffs, 17 when they lost to the Buffalo Bills the year before, and 21 vs the Chiefs in 2022.

“The defense has been an issue in the playoffs, we all know that, but they haven’t had the offense to keep up,” Fittipaldo added. “I think this at least gives them a puncher's chance in the playoffs.”

The Steelers are one of the NFL’s largest and most historic teams and with Rodgers now under center, the chances of a deep playoff run just got a little better.
