Steelers' Justin Fields Gives A Scary Warning To Rest Of NFL
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a wild offseason so far in 2024. Several positions look completely different as Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are starting up, but there is a popular storyline in the Steel City brewing. Not a single person could have envisioned the team's quarterback room being without even one of the trio made up of Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph, but it definitely wasn't expected that both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields would be the top two on the depth chart entering the summer. Wilson will be the expected starter, but Fields could be the future.

On the first day of OTAs, it was refreshing for fans to hear from many players that have been absent throughout the majority of the offseason. One of those who hasn't been quoted much since the Steelers traded for him is Fields. In a media scrum on Tuesday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic posted a video of Fields speaking and he is grateful for the help he has already gotten from individuals within the organization, including Wilson, and knows that he still can be great.

"I know I am. I'm not the same quarterback as I was last year and I'm not the same quarterback as I even was yesterday. So, I'm going to continue to get better each and every day. Especially with Tom [Arth], our quarterback coach. He's smart and, you know, Matt Baker, he's super smart too, and Russell, like I said. Just learning from all three of those guys and having them by my side, and having them getting me better, pushing me to be my best... I'm nowhere near my ceiling."

It's a scary thought to think about Fields' ceiling. He had an up-and-down time with the Chicago Bears, but certainly has the dynamic traits to cause headaches for NFL defensive coordinators.

General Manager Omar Khan has done a stellar job reshaping the Steelers' roster since he took over in May of 2022. With an extremely difficult schedule in 2024, the organization will not just need to stay healthy, but get consistent play from the starting cast. It looks like it will start with Wilson at the helm when it comes to the game's most important position, but Khan and co. did a great job bringing in a formidable backup that has the traits to be a star.

Steelers Have Best Of Both Worlds At Quarterback

Pittsburgh created a quarterback room that consists of a Super Bowl champion and veteran, while also bringing in a young player with a ton of potential. Both remain under contract for only 2024, but things could change in a hurry. There is a lot to be excited about when it comes to the duo, but given Fields' age, he could be the next franchise quarterback in the Steel City if he gets the time he needs to develop properly, something he did not get in Chicago.
