Justin Fields is a former Chicago Bears first round pick who now plays for the Steelers in Pittsburgh under Coach Mike Tomlin. Fields and the Steelers have a chance to make a deep playoff run, but as last season proved, quarterback play will be paramount. The Steelers don’t have Mason Rudolph anymore but they do have Russell Wilson, formerly of the Broncos, and the talented but oft-maligned Chicago Bears product Justin Fields.
On Tuesday, reporter MikeDeFabo shared video of Fields discussing his exciting mindset toward the Steelers job headed into the season.
Fields’ stark comments came during a time of revelations on the scariest part of the Steelers’ 2024 NFL schedule. Steelers contract talks with franchise legend Cam Heyward got a detailed update.
On Tuesday, fans were abuzz with talk of whether Fields really will be the Steelers’ man at QB1 come Opening Day.
With OTAs underway in the National Football League the race for specific position group starters has taken center stage. Justin Fields clearly has no plans of riding pine this season as he discussed his thoughts on winning the QB1 job from Wilson with candor and grace.
Justin Fields said he’s “definitely competing.. Russ knows that. We’re competing against each other every day.

Another reporter, James Palmer, shared his thoughts on the former Chicago Bears QB’s potential for starting with Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Russell Wilson has the edge in experience and production career-wise, along with big game and playoff/Super Bowl experience, Fields has an ‘it’ factor, youth, and unique abilities on his side that could ultimately give him the starting nod.
Justin Fields to reporters today: “I definitely don’t have the mindset of sitting all year. I’m coming in every day, giving it all I got.”
My understanding is Fields has a real shot to win the job. And my guess, I bet it’s very realistic we see both Fields and Russell Wilson…

Mike Tomlin’s team got average play at quarterback for much of last season at best and is moving on with Fields and Wilson in line to take snaps with the first team. Neither guy appears to be a lead pipe lock superstar caliber player at this point in time, but they both have more than enough bullets in the chamber to take aim at a playoff win or two this upcoming season.
