Steelers' Larry Ogunjobi reveals defense's main focus in 2023

The Steelers have high expectations for the 2023 season and that includes defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, who recently shared the defense's main goal this year.

"I think as a defense, it's always eliminating big plays," Ogunjobi said on "The Sick Podcast." "It takes a team. You can be a guy, but when you put a bunch of guys together, that's when we start seeing a true difference. I just feel like we're in that progression right now."

Ogunjobi signed a three-year, $28.75 million contract with Pittsburgh this offseason. It was quite the deal for a player who had just 1.5 sacks in 2022.

The 29-year-old spent his first season with the Steelers rehabbing a foot injury. He was supposed to sign a three-year contract with the Bears last offseason but failed his physical coming off surgery.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said he expects "much more" from Ogunjobi in 2023.

Ogunjobi knows it and is looking forward to playing a larger role on defense, which hopefully helps eliminating those big plays.

"When you're going through injuries and things of that nature, it sucks and you've got to go through them, but you still have the standard of play that you wanna execute," Ogunjobi added.

If Ogunjobi is fully healthy, he can make a difference on defense, which is exactly what the six-year veteran needs to do to prove Pittsburgh right for giving him the multiyear deal he was looking for a year ago.
