Steelers Learning Updated Details On Game in Ireland

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a franchise of "firsts.''

The Steelers were the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls twice and the first team to win four overall.

This season, they'll become the first to do something else in the NFL: play a game in Ireland.

It'll be just the second time in team history it will play overseas and the first time in over a decade to do so.

While speculation had been that the Green Bay Packers were going to be the Steelers' opponent in Dublin, that's apparently not the case now.

Green Bay radio host Bill Michaels reported that the Packers think they'll be heading to Pittsburgh for that game.

"@Packers President Mark Murphy states that the @steelers most likely will protect the Green Bay game, therefore they will play in Pittsburgh and not Ireland. Especially if a former QB is playing in the Steel City. #tailgatetour #greenbay"

Michaels doesn't name Aaron Rodgers in the post, but it's certainly implied with "former QB." The Steelers are still waiting on a decision from Aaron Rodgers, but if he is playing for Pittsburgh next season, the Rooneys certainly want that game against his former team at Acrisure Stadium.

Dublin will host Ireland's first NFL regular-season game, and it will feature the Steelers - who with the long-standing Rooney family ownership have their Irish ties - at historic Croke Park.

The last time the Steelers played overseas was in 2013 when Pittsburgh lost to the Vikings 34-27 at Wembley Stadium in London.

The opposing team has not yet been announced, but Pittsburgh will play as the home team, meaning instead of nine home games at Acrisure Stadium in 2025, there will be only eight.

Dublin will join Madrid and Berlin as a first-time host next season as the NFL expands it's footprint globally.

The league also announced it will play a game in 2026 at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
