Steelers legend shares one big Aaron Rodgers concern after win over Jets

Aaron Rodgers looked like a quarterback reborn as he guided the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 34-32 win at the New York Jets, his former club, in Week 1.

Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger was were impressed by what Rodgers accomplished at MetLife Stadium in Week 1. Roethlisberger is also worried that Rodgers may not be able to stay in the lineup through Week 18 unless his offensive line does a better job of protecting him in future games.

Ben Roethlisberger's biggest concern regarding Aaron Rodgers

"I'm very encouraged by the way Aaron played," Roethlisberger said on the latest edition of his podcast, per Jake Brockhoff of Steelers Depot. "My concern is going to be, moving forward, can Aaron take a beating like that every week? Not at that age (41)...If that doesn't improve, we're not gonna have a quarterback very long, and it's gonna be a rough season."

Rodgers completed 73.3 percent of 30 pass attempts for 244 yards and four touchdowns, one of which was a jet touch pass, in the victory over the Jets. That said, he took four sacks and three other hits as left tackle Broderick Jones endured an afternoon to forget.

Specifically, Pro Football Focus stats show that Jones allowed three sacks and four pressures over the weekend.

While with the Jets last fall, Rodgers was slowed by knee-related setbacks, a nagging hip issue, a low ankle sprain and a serious hamstring problem. By the time he looked more like his old self in December, Gang Green's season was already a lost cause.

Aaron Rodgers needs better from the guys up front

"What's going on on the O-line has to be like pulling hair out," Roethlisberger added during the podcast. "Because you're running for 53 yards, and you've given up four sacks. And with all due respect, Broderick Jones looks like a turnstile. I mean, it was bad."

The Steelers' use of play-action coupled with Rodgers' quick release could help keep him upright through this coming Sunday's home game against the 0-1 Seattle Seahawks. However, he could soon become a spectator if he doesn't get better play from the left-tackle position following what occurred in the season opener.
