The Pittsburgh Steelers are likely going to keep the Aaron Rodgers to one season.
After an incredible start for the future Pro Football Hall Of Famer, the Steelers have seen some of the weaknesses of the offense after over half the season. With that in mind, the Steelers are going to have to begin their search for new talent at the position.
With the Steelers not necessarily bad enough to land a prime quarterback in this year's draft class, they might have to dip into free agency for the third season to find their quarterback of the future. USA Today's Jacob Camenker believes that the Steelers are a possible target for Mac Jones, who is seeing a career revival as the backup in San Francisco.
"Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old, and he holds just a one-year deal with the Steelers. Pittsburgh will still have Mason Rudolph and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard under contract in 2026, but the team may need to add a more proven starter to compete with the unit. The Steelers aren't likely to be in range for one of the draft's top quarterbacks, so trading for Jones could end up being a solid stopgap. The 27-year-old would be a natural replacement for Rodgers, as their present tendencies are similar. Both quarterbacks prefer to utilize the short passing game to get the ball out of their hands quickly and get the ball to their playmakers in stride." Camenker wrote.
Other spots that Camenker recommended for the former Alabama standout were the Minnesota Vikings following a disappointing J.J. McCarthy year, the Miami Dolphins, the Cleveland Browns, the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets.
Jones feels like another stopgap option for the Steelers, which would just be a rehash of this season. Despite Jones being younger and haing a good season, he does not seem like a long-term option for any team. The Steelers will likely try to take a quarterback whereever they land in the draft order.
Due to their success this season to a certain degree, the top options are off the table unless the team wants to use significant capital to move up in the draft. With the 2026 NFL draft occurring in Pittsburgh, it seems unlikely that they would part with anything significant early on in the draft.
