Steelers Place Offensive Lineman on Injured Reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed offensive tackle Calvin Anderson on the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday. Anderson will be forced to miss the rest of the regular season, but would be eligible to return in the playoffs if the Steelers make it.

Anderson was unexpectedly limited in practice on Friday and was listed questionable to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The Steelers already have three players ruled out with soft-tissue injuries this week: wide receiver George Pickens (hamstring), strong safety DeShon Elliott (hamstring) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (groin).

The Steelers have already had eight players miss 36 man-games this season with soft-tissue injuries. With Anderson unable to play on Sunday, that increases those numbers to 11 players and 40 man-games. They had 23 man-game lost to soft-tissue injuries in all of the 2023 season.

Anderson going on the injured reserve will make space for Montravius Adams to be activated and start at nose tackle.

Without Anderson, the Steelers could dress guard Max Scharping, who has been a healthy scratch recently, and have swingman Spencer Anderson serve as the team’s primary backup at tackle, or they could elevate Dylan Cook from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.
