The Pittsburgh Steelers added former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf in a trade earlier this offseason. But there is a chance that the team is not done making improvements to their weapons.
In a recent article by PFF's Dalton Wasserman, who outlines one player who could be a "surprise" pick for every team in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. For the Steelers, he thinks they could consider selecting Missouri superstar wide receiver Luther Burden III.
"The Steelers don’t lack deep threats with DK Metcalf and George Pickens on the roster, but their passing game could use more variety... adding a player like Luther Burden III would provide a much-needed spark," Wasserman writes. "Burden ranked among the top four FBS wideouts in both yards after catch and missed tackles forced over the past two seasons."
While Burden's stats took a bit of a dip in his final year in college, he still made his presence felt in his time at Missouri.
He finished the 2023 season with 1,212 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, and he averaged an impressive 14.1 yards per reception. Metcalf and Pickens are two guys that can go up and grab a jump ball, and Burden is a guy who can get you yards after the catch, which is something that can be very valuable.
There was a point during the pre-Draft process when Burden was viewed on the same plane at Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden, both of whom are now seen as top-10 candidates to go in this draft.
Is Burden still close to that? Will he slide?
If the Steelers decide they want to add another dimension to their passing game, drafting Burden in the first round this coming weekend could be an intriguing option.
