Steelers' Russell Wilson Gets Huge Approval From Browns' Myles Garrett

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't signed a quarterback to be their starter for 2025 to this point, as Aaron Rodgers continues to ponder on his decision. If Rodgers decides to pass on spending next season in the Steel City, Pittsburgh is hoping their last resort, Russell Wilson, will still be available and willing to re-sign as a free agent. On Thursday, Wilson met with the Cleveland Browns to discuss the possibility of a contract agreement. In a press conference just a day afterwards, a specific Cleveland star, who has stirred tons of drama this offseason, revealed he and Wilson shared some words in the Browns' building.

Myles Garrett told the Browns' franchise and the rest of the fan base that he would prefer to be traded to another team at the beginning of the 2025 offseason. In a statement which Garrett and his team released, the defensive play-maker made it clear that he wanted to be a part of a winning team. Garrett would eventually decide to remain in Cleveland by signing a record-breaking extension, contradicting his former wishes. 

For the first time since he signed his new deal with the Browns, Garrett spoke to the media. On Friday, Garrett was asked about Wilson's visit with Cleveland the day beforehand. To no surprise, Garrett spoke about the leadership aspect that Wilson brings to the table. Garrett even went on to say that Wilson could actually be an asset to the Browns. 

"I think it went well. Him and I had a little bit of a conversation at the Pro Bowl as well as here," Garrett said on Friday in front of the Browns' media team. "I definitely think he'd be a valuable asset as a leader, as a mentor to those young guys. So veteran leadership can't be understated. He definitely has some juice left at the position. He has plenty of arm left, he's very smart and he knows what he's capable of. So he'd be a valuable asset."

During the two rival's first 2024 matchup, which was a snow-fest in Cleveland, Garrett sacked Wilson three times, including a forced fumble in addition. Garrett also sacked Wilson another time during their stint in Pittsburgh, which the Steelers won. Garrett sacked Wilson a grand total of four times in 2024. 

Wilson became evidently too slow over the last few years, and if there's anyone that has seen it at first hand, it's Garrett. Garrett gave the appropriate and respectful response any player would say in front of a group of reporters. It seems unlikely that Garrett would actually be bought in for Wilson as the Browns' quarterback for 2025.

Wilson wound up leaving the Browns' facility without agreeing on a contract. He could very well still find himself in the AFC North in 2025, but Rodgers' decision will have a major impact on that.

Not only do the Browns have interest in signing Wilson, but they also were willing to send off a fifth round pick and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in exchange for Kenny Pickett. The Browns, who also don't have their starting quarterback for 2025 figured out yet, are willing to take a swing on the former Steeler who only lasted two seasons. Ironically, Pickett wanted out of Pittsburgh after the Steelers signed Wilson. It's now a possibility that the two could become teammates again, but on the other side of the AFC North rivalry.
