Steelers Sign Former Texans Punter

The Pittsburgh Steelers have filled another hole on their roster, this time adding to their special teams unit, agreeing to a deal with punter Cameron Johnston, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.

Johnston, 32, spent the last three years with the Houston Texans. Prior to that, he spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 2021 NFL punting leader averaged 47.7 yards per punt last season, and heads into the 2024 campaign with a career average of 47.3. That includes 182 punts landed inside the 20-yard line and a 40.9% average of landing his punts inside the 20.

Last year, he landed 45.5% of his punts inside the 20-yard line and finished with just three touchbacks.

The Steelers decided to move on from punter Pressley Harvin ahead of his third season in the NFL. Pittsburgh knew coming into the offseason that they would look for a new avenue at the position and will now move forward with Johnston as their guy.
