Steelers Tight End Unexpectedly Lands on Injury Report

Veteran Pittsburgh Steelers tight end MyCole Pruitt unexpectedly landed on the team’s injury report on Tuesday in advance of the team’s playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens this Saturday.

Pruitt was listed as a limited participant in the team’s practice session on Tuesday. Head coach Mike Tomlin did not mention the veteran tight end when detailing the team’s injuries on Monday. Pruitt has been dealing with knee trouble since the early part of the season, and has missed five games so far this season with knee issues. It’s unknown if this is a reoccurrence of the older injury or a new ailment.

The 32-year-old Pruitt has mostly been used as blocker for the Steelers this season. In 12 games, he has been targeted 10 times, making six catches for 40 yards. He’s played in 24% of the team’s offensive snaps this season.

Pruitt has one touchdown on the season, but it did come against the Ravens back in Week 16.

The Steelers have three other tight end on their 53-man roster, Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward. Matt Sokol is the lone tight end on the practice squad. He has not appeared in a game this season.

In addition to Pruitt, right guard Mason McCormick was limited with a broken hand, and linebacker Cole Holcomb continues to be limited as he works his way back from knee surgery.

Defensive tackle Cam Heyward was given the day off, as he is still recovering from the flu.

Wide receiver Roman Wilson (hamstring), defensive tackle Logan Lee (calf), tackle Calvin Anderson (groin) and cornerback Donte Jackson (back) were all full participants.
