Steelers Training Camp Takeaways No.7: Why it might be time to worry on offense, T.J. Watt shines under the lights, and more

The Pittsburgh Steelers held their annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium on Friday.

The pads were on, and the crowd was excited for the spectacle that is Steelers training camp under the lights.

Here are the major takeaways from practice seven in Latrobe...

The offense has a very long way to go

The Steelers welcomed Broderick Jones back to padded practice, and Alex Highsmith welcomed him to a lesson in how not to pass protect. By all accounts, it wasn't even close in the three 1v1s between Jones and Highsmith, with the pass rusher going to town.

Jones' backup, Calvin Anderson, was seen limping in practice, and he's now dealing with an injury that needs to be evaluated per HC Mike Tomlin. Troy Fautanu, who opened padded practice by handling T.J. Watt, had the veteran turn things around against him on Friday.

But what might have been most concerning was the lack of efficiency from the Steelers' offense in the two-minute drill, where they couldn't complete a pass, much less move the ball against the defense.

As we have stated, the Steelers' defense might be the best in the league at some point, but if players like Roman Wilson, Broderick Jones, and Troy Fautanu are not significant difference makers, there just isn't enough juice to score consistently.

Will Howard is impossible to ignore

It seems that Will Howard attends practice every day and makes a noteworthy play. On Friday night, he had the best throw of his Steelers career, however, with a ripper up the seam to TE JJ Galbreath.

Don't look now, but with the preseason on the horizon, Will Howard might start making some serious noise when it comes to the depth chart.

T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith dominate

As previously mentioned, T.J. Watt got back on Troy Fautanu following his wins from a few days ago. The same thing occurred between Highsmith and Broderick Jones, as these two continue to prove they form one of the best EDGE rushing duos in recent memory.

Injury Notes

On top of Calvin Anderson leaving practice, Cory Trice was said to have suffered a hamstring injury, according to Mike Tomlin, and both Keeanu Benton and Joey Porter Jr. didn't practice, though the reasoning is unclear.
