Steelers warned not to underestimate Ravens QB Tyler Huntley

Tyler Huntley started four games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, but no performance was more disastrous than the one he had in a 16-13 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17.

But during his media availability on Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that the Huntley they’ll likely see on Sunday won’t be the same player they saw in January.

“We’re preparing to see a much better guy, a more experienced guy, a guy who has learned from that exposure,” Tomlin said. “…I imagine last year’s experience really narrowed his focus as he went into the offseason. He was able to identify tangible areas of his game he needed to improve. We’re not going to seek comfort or find comfort that we’ve been in a stadium with him before. Last year’s exposure for him, more than anything else, tells us we’ve got to be prepared for a guy that’s significantly better.”

In that Week 17 meeting, Huntley completed just 16-of-31 passes for 141 yards and two interceptions. He was sacked three times and has a season-low passer rating of 37.2.

Huntley looked much more comfortable in last week’s 10-9 win over the Denver Broncos, completing 84.3% of his passes (27-of-32) for 187 yards and a passer rating of 78 in relief of Lamar Jackson.

He led a 16-play, 91-yard winning drive in the fourth quarter, in which he completed 8-of-10 passes and ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 28 seconds left.

“The players have a lot of confidence in him,” Ravens coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters on Monday. “He’s a player that’s got a lot of dynamics to his game — he can throw, he can run, he operates really well.”
