Stefon Diggs blasts reports about frustrations with Bills offense

The Buffalo Bills and wide receiver Stefon Diggs seemingly are on the same page this summer, but that can't necessarily be said about Diggs and certain media members.

Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Diggs told reporters that it "is insane" to believe his alleged absences/non-absences from mandatory minicamp last month were related to the 29-year-old wanting more of a voice in Buffalo's offensive planning.

"For me to just want more say in the offense, it’s crazy because I play receiver. I don’t care what play is called," Diggs explained. "I can’t get up there and say, 'Call this.' It’s a lot of outlandish, obvious things where people [are] throwing [things] out there or people were saying [things] as far as my role. I’ve been a captain on this team for three years — there’s no question about my role and who I am as a player, how hard I work. Those things never had question marks. And you can’t say the same thing for a lot of people in the league."

Back in June, senior NFL writer Ben Volin of the Boston Globe noted that "Diggs' frustration is with his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling." NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated later wrote that Diggs and the Bills "needed to get on the same page on the direction of the offense" after the receiver confronted quarterback Josh Allen during Buffalo's 27-10 home playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January. Diggs ended that game with four receptions on 10 targets for 35 yards and no touchdowns.

"So, as far as me wanting to have [a] say-so in the play calling, that is insane to me — just because I couldn’t call a play to save my life," Diggs continued. "I couldn’t call a game to save my life. Be for real."

Individuals within the Bills have publicly decided to blame the media for Diggs' name generating headlines from January through this week. That's all well and good during training camp, but it will be interesting to see if he and Allen remain tight throughout the upcoming campaign.
