Stefon Diggs still tied to an NFC contender

Against all odds, Stefon Diggs came back strong from a season-ending ACL injury.

He topped 1,000 receiving yards with the New England Patriots, but the team moved on from him right after the Super Bowl.

Diggs' free agency was put on hold while he dealt with legal issues off the field, but there hasn't been much traction since he was acquitted and cleared of all wrongdoing.

His time without a team may not last much longer. According to Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, Diggs could come home to Maryland to sign with the Washington Commanders, who still need another reliable pass catcher.

Stefon Diggs could come home to the Washington Commanders

"Brandon Aiyuk has released a series of videos on social media, lambasting his current team, the San Francisco 49ers, and pushing to be associated with the Commanders. Washington should look elsewhere for receiver help—someone who's a free agent and has been on the field over the last year," wrote Moton. "...Diggs could sign a homecoming contract with the Commanders in the coming weeks."

As Moton mentioned, former 49ers All-Pro Brandon Aiyuk is in a campaign to take his talents to the nation's capital.

But even if (when) his current team releases him, the Commanders should be wary about signing someone with a well-documented history of power struggles and tantrums, much more so after he's been away from the game for two years.

Diggs can also be a bit of a handful, but he can still contribute on the field, and the Commanders have last year's tape to attest to that.

Also, this might be his last contract, and it would be the perfect full-circle moment before riding into the sunset.
