Stephen A. Smith never misses a chance to rip the Dallas Cowboys. Sometimes while donning a cowboy hat, he pounces on any chance to criticize "America's Team" or use them to generate headlines for himself.

Cowboys fans have grown quite familiar with the game Smith likes to play. Unfortunately, their team has not given the ESPN star much reason to stop.

Dallas has not made a conference championship since 1992, the longest drought of any team in the NFC. Year after year, Smith goes back to the well to draw more scorn as he mocks and stereotypes the Cowboys and their fans.

Usually, the subject may be Jerry Jones or Dak Prescott. But this time, he is going after an ex Cowboys for an entirely different reason.

Cowboy turned ESPN host Chris Canty has flipped the script on his colleague. Smith, an impassioned New York Knicks fan, has watched his team fall down 2-1 in the series.

Canty suggested the angst and struggles of NBA Eastern Conference Finals are a result of bad karma turning on Smith. The ESPN personality then turned that theory jokingly on Canty.

“It’s that damn Chris Canty, I’m telling you right now, he does a phenomenal job for us on ESPN Radio every morning,” Smith began. “But ever since he got that damn radio show, he’s gotten more evil. That’s what he’s done. That’s what he turned into.

"Chris Canty used to be this nice big teddy bear…and then all of a sudden, he gets the morning radio show and he is just slicing and dicing people up – calling folks frauds and everything like that. And now he’s trolling me. I’m gonna get him.”

The Knicks and the Cowboys are two of the biggest professional sports franchises in American sports. When they are performing on such a stage, they tend to draw more than the usual audience.

New York is demonstrating that truth in real time as the Knicks playoff run carries on. The Cowboys have yet to put that common belief to the test yet this century, contributing to their continued beratement at the hands of Smith and many others.

As for the Knicks, they picked up a massive Game 3 comeback win on Sunday, hoping to replicate that success in Game 4 to steal back home court from the Indiana Pacers
