Cowboys outside linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the NFL's best pass rushers, but is he the successor to Pro Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor, the former New York Giants star? ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, who despises the Cowboys, believes Parsons is the closest to Taylor in the modern game.
“Micah Parsons is the second coming of Lawrence Taylor,” said Smith on Tuesday’s "First Take."

In 2010, when the NFL compiled the 100 greatest players of all time, Taylor came in at No.3.
During his career, Taylor won NFL MVP (1986) and Defensive Player of the Year three times as well as two Super Bowls. He also made first-team All-Pro eight times and was named to the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time team.
Parsons was a stud as a rookie, when he was unanimously selected NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had the second-most sacks (13) for a rookie in NFL history and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt.
According to CBS Sports, Parsons has the most sacks through 18 career games with 17. However, you can’t compare him Taylor in that regard because sacks weren’t recorded until 1982. Taylor was a rookie in 1981.

Although they’re both star outside linebackers, Parsons dismissed comparisons to Taylor in December.
“I could see the similarities. But L.T. was completely different. It's an honor that people are doing that,” Parsons said.
