The Dallas Cowboys enter Week 4 at 1-2, battling inconsistency on both sides of the ball and injuries to key players. In particular, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had been one of their brightest spots early, recording 16 receptions for 222 yards across the first two games. But his momentum was cut short in Week 3 when he suffered a high ankle sprain during the opening quarter against the Chicago Bears.
Lamb exited after just six snaps, and the Cowboys have since confirmed he will miss Sunday night’s primetime matchup against the Green Bay Packers. His absence will leave a significant void in the passing game, further shrinking an offense that is still searching for following Week 3’s loss to the Bears.
The injury occurred when Bears linebacker Noah Sewell landed on Lamb’s ankle, forcing it into an awkward twist. He was later diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, and initially feared to be out for around four to six weeks (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport), ESPN’s Todd Archer reported a timeline of three to four weeks on Monday.
Lamb did not practice this week, as the Cowboys continue to monitor his situation.
On Friday, executive vice president Stephen Jones announced that the Cowboys will evaluate Lamb and right guard Tyler Booker—who is also nursing a high ankle sprain—next week before deciding whether either player will be placed on injured reserve (via The Athletic’s John Machota).
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan said they’ll determine next week if CeeDee Lamb (high ankle) or Tyler Booker (high ankle) will go on injured reserve. Both are currently wearing walking boots. They’ll be reevaluated next week

If moved to IR, both would miss at least four games. Booker is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks, further thinning Dallas’ offensive line depth.
Lamb’s early-season impact shows just how big of a blow his injury is to Dallas. He posted seven catches for 110 yards in Week 1 and nine catches for 112 yards in Week 2, making him Dak Prescott’s most reliable weapon. Without him, the Cowboys struggled in the 31-14 loss to Chicago, with the passing game unable to generate consistent chunk plays.
Booker’s absence also compounds the challenge, and could limit protection up front and affect the run game.
Dallas will turn to George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert, and KaVontae Turpin to shoulder the receiving load, while backups will fill in along the offensive line. Green Bay’s sturdy defensive front led by former Cowboys DE Micah Parsons poses a tough test, and Prescott may need to lean on quick throws to keep the offense moving.
The Cowboys will hope they can find a way to navigate this stretch without their top receiver and a starting lineman. And their performance at home against the Packers could say a lot about the trajectory in which they are headed.
Kickoff is set for 8:20 PM ET with live coverage on NBC.
