Steve Belichick discusses future of Bill Belichick

During a recent appearance on the "Green Light with Chris Long" podcast, new Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Steve Belichick discussed what's next for Bill Belichick after Steve's famous father failed to land a desired NFL head-coaching job this winter.

"I think he’s good," Steve said about Bill, per Keagan Stiefel of NESN. "Let this stuff roll off your back and move forward. He doesn’t dwell unless we lost a game and he needs to get on some guys, but mentally you got to turn the page. I wasn’t too involved with any of this stuff. He did his thing, I did my thing, and that was kind of that. He’s definitely pursuing other stuff, whether it’s TV, or be a regular on 'Green Light.'"

Mike Vorel of The Seattle Times noted that Steve served as an assistant with the New England Patriots under Bill from 2012 through this past season.

It was widely thought in January that Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank would hire Bill Belichick to be his new head coach, but Blank instead chose former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

It's since been suggested that either Bill turned Blank down or that Blank refused to give Bill a certain amount of power within the organization.

Meanwhile, some have repeatedly mentioned that one of the NFL's media partners could soon hire Bill Belichick to be a studio analyst for next season. Steve hinted the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach may welcome a temporary career change.

"His hobbies would still be, I would say, critiquing football," Steve added about Bill. "He was excited when I came out here because he got to evaluate the scheme last year, evaluate the players last year. I’m sure he’ll come out here at some point to do some stuff, but the guy just loves football, so there’s definitely that element."

A report from earlier this month revealed that "multiple" owners of NFL teams are already thinking about reaching out to Bill Belichick in January 2025 depending on what occurs during the 2024 season.

Perhaps Bill will follow in Steve's footsteps and appear on "Green Light with Chris Long" to share his intentions for and beyond the upcoming campaign.
