Super Bowl King of Props: Gainwell to grab well

As two recent Super Bowl champions prepare to compete for another title, the cores of the teams are notably different. Head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes lead the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl appearance in the last four years, having captured the crown in February 2020. On the other side, the Eagles are five years removed from their title, and both the coach (Nick Sirianni) and QB (Jalen Hurts) are newcomers.

The betting options for the Super Bowl likewise reflect familiar and foreign elements. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of props, especially since many are unique to this event. In the run-up to kickoff, all of the KOP’s favorite investment opportunities will be posted here at Yardbarker.

The bet: Over 1½ receptions for Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (DraftKings)

Partly because he’s a better blocker than starter Miles Sanders, Gainwell gets the majority of the backfield snaps in passing situations. He has made at least one reception in each of the previous nine games, with a high of four catches against the Cowboys the last time the Eagles played away from Lincoln Financial Field.

In the NFC Championship victory over the 49ers, Gainwell was thrown three passes and caught a pair of them for 26 yards. And since Super Bowl 57 (enough with the Roman numerals) is expected to be much closer than either of Philadelphia’s playoff games so far, his receiving role will only grow.

When the Eagles faced this Chiefs defense last season, Hurts targeted his running backs a whopping 11 times. Gainwell established career bests with six receptions for 58 yards, and he had already secured two catches by the end of the first quarter.

We just need similar output across the full 60 minutes.
