The Green Bay Packers are third in the NFC North, which usually is not the recipe for a Super Bowl championship. But the updated Super Bowl LIX odds after Week 13 tells us a different story.
DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and bet365 all see the Packers as the third NFC team with the best chances of winning the title, right after the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles.
This is especially curious because the Packers have better odds than the Minnesota Vikings, who have a better record inside the NFC North.
DVOA agrees with that perception. After Week 13, the Packers are 5th in the league, right ahead of the Vikings, and third in the NFC. Green Bay is only behind the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Philadelphia Eagles. In terms of odds, the back-to-back Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs are also ahead.
The Packers have played complementary football lately, especially in the wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins.
After that, Matt LaFleur's team is 4th on offense, 13th on defense, and 15th on special teams by DVOA. On Thursday, the Detroit Lions matchup is a huge test, and if the Packers win, the odds will certainly reflect that confidence next week.
