Super Bowl LVII by the numbers: For bettor or worse

Are the Kansas City Chiefs officially a dynasty? Two Super Bowls in the last four years, three Super Bowl appearances in the last four years, five straight AFC Championship appearances, and three AFC titles in the last five years. That's a heck of a resume.

But we'll let you decide whether or not they're a dynasty. However, what you can't deny is that they're in the conversation. But enough about whether or not Kansas City is a dynasty. Let's focus on the Super Bowl, and more importantly, the betting side of things.

Preseason underdogs? Despite appearing in the Super Bowl two years ago and winning the Super Bowl three years ago, the sportsbooks weren't super high on the Chiefs to win Super Bowl 57. Both Buffalo (+600) and Tampa Bay (+750) were favored ahead of KC before Week 1 of the regular of the season. The Chiefs entered the season as 11/1 (+1100) favorites to win the Super Bowl, meaning if you bet $100 bet on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl before the season started, you won $1,100.

NFC no longer on top: The NFC had won the previous two Super Bowls and were 24-20 all time against the AFC entering Sunday, but Kansas City ended that run with Sunday's 38-35 win over Philadelphia. The moneyline favorite (Philadelphia) also entered Super Bowl 57 having won three of the last four Super Bowls and 36-20 all time, however, the underdog Chiefs snapped that streak too.

Underdogs ATS now on top in Super Bowl: Entering Super Bowl 57, underdogs were 27-27-2 all-time against the spread, but after KC (+2.5) covered and won outright, underdogs now have a better record than ATS favorites. ATS underdogs have also covered the spread in three straight Super Bowls following KC's nail-biting victory. The straight-up winner of the Super Bowl is also 47-7-3 against the spread as KC accomplished won straight up and covered.

Over smashes in Super Bowl 57: The under hit over 55% of the time during the regular season and hit in the last seven postseason games, but with the total points set at 51.5 prior to kickoff, it was the over that crushed it on Sunday. Super Bowl 57 featured 73 total points, ending the unders run of three straight covers in the Super Bowl.

Efficient Mahomes wins second Super Bowl MVP: Jalen Hurts (+120) was the Super Bowl MVP favorite entering the big game followed by Mahomes (+125), and thanks to some fourth-quarter magic from the league MVP, Mahomes won his second career Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns and despite a sprained right ankle, rushed for 41 yards on six carries.

Reigning League MVP, coin toss curses snapped in Super Bowl 57: Prior to Super Bowl Sunday, the last nine reigning league MVPs who played in the Super all lost, and the last eight teams that won the opening coin toss also lost. But not anymore. Reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes ended that streak, and the Chiefs, who won the opening coin toss after choosing heads tails, also won. Prior to Super Bowl 57, the last team to win the coin toss and the game was Seattle back in 2013.

Halftime lead streak ends: For the past five Super Bowls, the team that led at halftime went on to win the Super Bowl. However, that run is over after KC overcame a 10-point halftime deficit on Sunday. Prior to KC, the last team to overcome a halftime deficit in the Super Bowl was New England in 2016 when they overcame a 28-3 deficit, and an 18-point halftime deficit.

Opening kickoff results in touchback, again: You might not think this is all that big of a deal, but it kind of is. Super Bowl 57 was projected to start with a touchback (-142), at least according to the sportsbooks, and it did. However, for the first time ever, back-to-back Super Bowls have started with a touchback on the opening kickoff. Prior to Sunday, 28 of the previous 31 Super Bowl opening kickoffs were returned.

Gatorade Color: When the clock hits zero, you know what's coming next ... the Gatorade cooler. It's just a matter of what color the Gatorade will be though. And on Sunday, it was purple. Not what many expected. Excluding none (+1400), purple (+1000) had the second-worst odds via BetMGM. Yellow/green (+275) was the consensus favorite followed by orange (+300), blue (+375), red/pink (+500) and clear/water.

National Anthem: The line for the length of this year's National Anthem was set at two minutes and five seconds (-115), and it was the under that hit on Sunday. Country star Chris Stapleton sang the National Anthem in exactly two minutes and one second, snapping the overs run in the last two Super Bowls.

Reddit user's losing streak continues: The Reddit user who had incorrectly picked the last 15 Super Bowl winners can now officially make it 16. This individual picked Philadelphia to win on Sunday, and doesn't seem to care that he's been wrong so many times in a row. In fact, it kind of seems like he relishes it.

The book scores big, again: Most of the major money on the Super Bowl was on Philadelphia, and as it always seems to be, it was the book that won big, again. Of the five reported bets that were over $1 million, four of them were on Philadelphia to cover the spread or win outright.
