Surprising report emerges about Browns’ QB battle

A new and surprising report has emerged about the state of the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback battle.

Zac Jackson of The Athletic wrote Monday that Joe Flacco has been the “best pure thrower” of the four main competitors for the team’s quarterback job. The quarterback already knows the team’s offense from his stint with Cleveland in 2023, and has actively helped other players learn the system during spring camps.

Jackson notes that there is no guarantee Flacco wins the starting job or keeps it all season even if he does. However, it certainly sounds like he has a leg up on the competition at this stage.

The Browns may prefer to start with a veteran like Flacco instead of turning things over to someone like Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel. Giving one of their rookies the opportunity to learn behind Flacco might be the best for their long-term development without compromising the team’s ability to compete now.

Flacco went 4-1 in five starts down the stretch for Cleveland in 2023. He may be the best short-term option in what could prove to be a very crowded quarterback room.
