Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign Quarterback to Active 53-Man Roster
USA TODAY Sports

Early Monday evening, the night before the NFL's trade deadline, the NFL was not quiet as a mouse as trades began to be made and news started to break surrounding possible destinations for players who could be on the move.

One of those players mentioned was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' third-string quarterback John Wolford - who is currently on the Bucs' practice squad.

Senior NFL Insider for The Athletic, Dianna Russini, was the first to break the reports that the Los Angeles Rams were expected to sign their former quarterback John Wolford off of the Bucs' practice squad. The Rams of course are dealing with an injury to starter Matt Stafford (thumb) and the only other quarterback they have for emergency duty is backup Brett Rypien.

It wasn't too shortly after that, reports started to surface that Wolford wouldn't be signing with the Rams nor any other team, deciding to stay put in Tampa Bay.

According to the reports and confirmed by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will add Wolford to their active 53-man roster amidst the reports that he was a hot commodity amongst other teams with quarterback depth issues.

Wolford started four games for the Los Angeles Rams across his three-years with the team posting extremely mediocre numbers, but was able to go 2-2 in those four starts. Even though he may not be even an average QB when it comes to the NFL, he has shown enough that teams across the league were very interested in pulling him away from the Buccaneers.

The addition of Wolford to the Bucs' 53-man roster likely means that the team will have to cut someone who is currently on it, which will be something to monitor as the deadline for trades becomes nearer and nearer.
