Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice may still be in the mix for a job with the Dallas Cowboys. But for those reading the tea leaves, there are positive signs Choice stays with the Longhorns.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported late Sunday that new Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer would interview Oregon running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples for the same position.
Samples would be a dynamic hire, and he’d be returning home, to a degree. Samples is the son of iconic Duncanville coach Reginald Samples, one of the most winningest coaches in Texas high school football history.

Ra’Shaad Samples, who graduated from Dallas Skyline High School, signed a two-year contract with Oregon last April with a pro-rated salary of $500,000 through January 2025 and then $650,000 for the 2025 season.
Choice currently makes about $700,000 with the Longhorns, and coach Steve Sarkisian could move quick to bolster that number to keep Choice.
For his part, Choice posted a photo of his new baby girl with the message, “Amya says Hook Em” on Sunday.

Coaches are smart enough these days to know that everything gets parsed and dissected. Was that a message to the Texas fan base that he’s staying? Probably so.
Nothing’s official until the Cowboys announce they have filled the position.
