Taylor Swift set to attend Chiefs-Broncos TNF game in support of Travis Kelce
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Taylor Swift is set to attend the Week 6 “Thursday Night Football” game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, according to a report from TMZ.

Swift, rumored to be in a relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, was in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium for Kansas City’s Week 3 win over the Chicago Bears and in the Week 4 road victory against the New York Jets. Swift was absent from the Chiefs’ Week 5 road win over the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday.

If her prior appearances are any indication, Amazon Prime Video is in store for record viewership. Thanks to several camera shots of the pop superstar inside a suite, a record amount of people tuned in to NBC to watch the “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Chiefs and Jets.

In total, the Chiefs’ 23-20 victory over the Jets garnered an average of 27 million viewers, the most-watched Sunday show since Super Bowl LVII in February. Viewership peaked at more than 29 million viewers during the second quarter.

The biggest jump in viewership compared to previous “Sunday Night Football” games took place among teen girls (age 12-17) — a 53% spike from the season-to-date average. In simplest terms, the Swift effect is real. No one can deny the impact Swift and her fans (Swifties) have had on the NFL’s bottom line, as well as Kelce’s.

Kelce’s No. 87 jersey has seen a 400% increase in sales and he has gained more than 300,000 followers on social media. Kelce now owns a top-5 selling jersey in the NFL after the bump from Swifties across the country.

NFL releases statement defending Taylor Swift takeover on social media, coverage

While diehard NFL fans may have a problem with the usage of Swift on broadcasts, the league isn’t planning on stopping anytime soon. In a statement last week, the league defended its spotlight of the “Cruel Summer” singer.

“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the NFL told PEOPLE. “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.

“The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players and variety of other initiatives, including our Toy Story Funday Football alt-cast, the international games and more.”
