TE C.J. Uzomah Announces Retirement

“History has a way of repeating itself and there’s no place I’d want to formally announce my retirement, than the place that started it all for me and gave me my chance,” Uzomah wrote. “The place I will always think of as my second home and will always hold a special place in me and my family’s heart. The place where we won a playoff game for the first time since before I was born, and went on an odds defying run to the Super Bowl. A place I’ve met people who have become like brothers to me. Cincinnati, thank you for everything.”

The Bengals selected the Auburn product in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, and the tight end proceeded to get into 79 games across seven seasons with the franchise. His best year in Cincy came in 2021, when he hauled in 49 receptions for 493 yards and five touchdowns. He added another 15 catches in the Bengals’ four playoff games that season.

Uzomah parlayed that performance into a three-year, $24MM deal with the Jets. His offensive production took a dip during his time in New York; in 27 games, the tight end was limited to 29 catches for 290 yards and three touchdowns. He was cut following two years with the organization, and he eventually caught on with the Eagles during their run to a Super Bowl LIX championship. He spent the 2025 campaign unsigned.

Uzomah finishes his career with 192 catches for 1,881 yards and 16 touchdowns.
