TE David Njoku relegated to third on Browns depth chart

Without officially saying anything, the Cleveland Browns said plenty on Monday about tight end David Njoku.

The Browns listed Njoku third on the team's first depth chart ahead of Sunday's season opener versus the Baltimore Ravens.

Austin Hooper, signed by the Browns in free agency, is atop the chart at the position. Harrison Bryant jumped ahead of Njoku to second.

Njoku, 24, made headlines when he and his agent reportedly pushed for a trade in the summer. On Aug. 1, though, Njoku tweeted he was "all in" on playing for Cleveland.

The Browns exercised the fifth-year option of Njoku's rookie deal in April. That contract runs through the 2021 campaign.

Njoku's 2019 season derailed before it had an opportunity to truly begin. He suffered a concussion and wrist injury in Cleveland's Week 2 win at the New York Jets and missed the majority of the year. In all, he accumulated just five catches and one touchdown across four appearances.

The Browns landing Hooper, who earned Pro Bowl nods in 2018 and 2019 while with the Atlanta Falcons, led some to speculate that Njoku could be considered surplus to requirements. Today's developments will likely cause many to wonder if the Browns are shopping Njoku before the season kicks off.
