Tennessee Titans are about to play in their biggest game since devastating playoff loss to Bengals

It may not feel like the Tennessee Titans have anything left to play for. Attendance at Nissan Stadium has been pitiful and excitement around Nashville is low enough to feel like the Ken Whisenhunt era.

That’s what a 3-12 record will do to a fanbase. Especially when there were expectations of competing before the season.

But let’s make no mistake about it. The Titans upcoming game with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday has huge stakes. It will be the biggest Titans game since the devastating loss in the Divisional Round to the Cincinnati Bengals…That’s not a typo or an exaggeration.

I won’t sugar coat anything. The Titans need to lose this weekend. Like...desperately.

If Tennessee loses out and finishes the season 3-14, they would be guaranteed a Top 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That would give the Titans the ability to draft either a franchise quarterback in Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward or a generational two-way superstar in Travis Hunter. Those three players feel like slam dunks to go in the 1-3 range and with two more losses, the Titans would at worst pick third overall.

With a win over the Jags, there’s a chance Tennessee ends up drafting outside of the Top 5. Is there high-end talent that will be available at that spot? Absolutely. But in the position the organization is currently in, a reset with a young quarterback feels like a necessity.

When the Titans and Jags last matched up, Jacksonville came out on top by a final score of 10-6. That was the beginning of the end for Titans quarterback Will Levis, who mustered only 168 passing yards and six points against the NFL’s worst defense.

Brian Callahan announced that Mason Rudolph would be under center to start the game. The Titans are slight favorites (-1) on the road.

If there’s a game the Titans are going to win and ruin their future, it’s this one. So as unnatural as it might feel for Tennessee fans, I’d be rooting against the two-tone blue this weekend. This could end up being a game you look back on in a decade and realize changed everything.
