Tennessee Titans Continue Roster Churn By Signing of DL Michael Dwumfour, Waiving OLB Zach McCloud

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans may not be forced to cut down their roster throughout the preseason anymore after an NFL rule change, but they will certainly continue to churn their group throughout training camp as they always have. 

Today, they signed defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour and waived outside linebacker Zach McCloud.

Dwumfour comes in at 6-foot-1, 296 pounds. Dwumfour has played two seasons in the NFL and spent time with two teams. The majority of his career has come with the Houston Texans where he played 10 of his 12 career games, but he also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, his most recent stop.

A former attendee of Rutgers and Michigan, Dwumfour has played 332 snaps in his NFL career with 27 of those coming on special teams. During those snaps he collected 13 tackles and two tackles for loss. Dwumfour has half of a sack on his record as well.

Dwumfour is one of two defensive linemen the Titans have added this week to go along with the returning Kyle Peko. Shakel Brown went to injured reserve for Peko's arrival, but to make room for Dwumfour, the Titans will be waiving McCloud. McCloud played a total of 8 snaps on defense for the Titans against the Bears, clearly falling out of favor with the team.

The Titans also added running back Jacques Patrick and waived cornerback Chris Jackson this week while also working out a veterans on the free agent market.

As touched on earlier, the NFL did make a change to how rosters are cut this year. Rather than gradually trimming down the roster to 85 players then 80 then to 53 as the preseason weeks unfold, teams can now keep their rosters at 90 players the entire preseason, making one large cut from 90 down to 53 following the third preseason game.

With that, the Titans have the ability to churn certain parts of their roster, but continue to develop young players who are just on the bubble. So, we may not seen as many cuts during these weeks as we have in years past, but the Titans will certainly continue to make moves where they see fit.
