Tennessee Vols legend Tee Martin, the quarterback of UT's 1998 national championship-winning team, was recently named as an option to become the Seattle Seahawks' new offensive coordinator.
Martin in his second season as the Baltimore Ravens' quarterbacks coach. It's Martin's fourth season overall with Baltimore (he was the Ravens' wide receivers coach from 2021 to 2022).
The Seahawks fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb this week, creating an opening on Mike Macdonald's coaching staff in Seattle.
Macdonald was the Ravens' defensive coordinator from 2022 to 2023, during which he worked alongside Martin.
From USA Today: Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin continues to do a phenomenal job with MVP QB Lamar Jackson. A former professional player, Martin understands the importance of balancing the run game with the passing game. He also crossed paths with Macdonald for two seasons (2022-23) in Baltimore.
Martin, who served as Tennessee's wide receivers coach from 2019 to 2020, has previous offensive coordinator experience. The former Vol was USC's offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2018. He also served as the Trojans' passing game coordinator from 2014 to 2015.
We'll see where this search goes, but it's not a surprise that Martin is viewed as an option considering his connection to Macdonald and the work he's done with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson over the last two seasons. Jackson was the NFL MVP in 2023 and he's one of the frontrunners to win the award in 2024.
