The moment everyone has been waiting for finally happened on Sunday as Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin had his official breakout game of the season, but it may be on hold now.

The passing offense has struggled early, and the time away this offseason has shown on the field for McLaurin through the first two games. Of course, he dealt with an ankle injury and didn't practice for a long time with his contract discussions, and we did expect some rust that would eventually go away.

Sunday looked to be the start of what's to come for McLaurin, but an injury he suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders may have derailed that for now and could hold him out this week.

Terry McLaurin suffered a quad injury

McLaurin brought in his routine deep pass on Sunday, but the excitement was short-lived as he left with a quad injury that has him in doubt for Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

The fan favorite finally brought in his deep pass on Sunday on a 56-yard dart from Marcus Mariota, and got cheated out of an obvious touchdown. Even though they didn't give him the touchdown, his production on Sunday almost matched his total in the first two games, as he finished with a team-high 74 yards.

The big play may have come at a cost, though, and now his status for Sunday is unknown. Quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Noah Brown are dealing with their own injuries, and Marcus Mariota could very well play again next week, but without his favorite weapon.

Head coach Dan Quinn never gives injury updates too early, and McLaurin getting second opinions to address his injury isn't a surprise. Quinn told the media on Monday that we will get the usual injury updates later in the week, but it wouldn't surprise me if McLaurin's status doesn't come until Friday.

"I'm sure there are a lot of questions regarding injuries," Quinn said. "And updates on that on Wednesday. I'll be better qualified to fill you in on where we're at in the assessments from there."

Mariota looked impressive in his start, and that might help keep Daniels out for another week, but missing McLaurin would not be ideal for the offense. More updates will come from Quinn throughout the week regarding the health status for the entire team, and hopes remain that McLaurin will play on Sunday.
