Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC , Texans GM Nick Caserio said they expect to agree to an extension with QB C.J. Stroud this offseason.

Houston decided to table extension talks with Stroud to next offseason after the two sides failed to reach an agreement this offseason. He’s currently in the fourth year of his rookie deal, with a fifth-year option for 2027 already exercised and scheduled to cost $25,904,000.

The reports this offseason suggested the Texans were willing to put Stroud in the tier of quarterbacks making at least $50 million per year, but the former Buckeye decided to bet on himself, as he could potentially reset the market with a good year due to his age.

After a disappointing end to the 2025 season where he had a rough stretch in the postseason, Stroud has been among the better quarterbacks in the league through seven weeks, despite a 2-5 record.

Stroud, 25, was named first-team All-Big 10 after both of his seasons as a starter at Ohio State and was a second-team All-American in 2022. He declared for the 2022 NFL Draft following his junior season and was drafted by the Texans with the No. 2 overall pick.

He signed a four-year, $36.3 million rookie deal that includes a $23.38 million signing bonus. The contract has a fifth-year option worth $25.904 million fully guaranteed for the 2027 season.

In 2026, Stroud has started seven games for the Texans and completed 64.8 percent of passes for 11 touchdowns and an interception. He’s also rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.

We’ll have more on Stroud as the news becomes available.
