Texans Named Fit for Former Steelers CB Patrick Peterson
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The talk around Patrick Peterson returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers remains relatively high, considering the team has yet to add an external free agent at slot cornerback. Peterson recently expressed his desire to return to the team, but that does not mean he will have a lack of suitors. As a future Hall of Famer who is now versatile and can play multiple spots, Peterson should see interest from various teams around the league after the Steelers released him following the 2023 season.

Bleacher Report believes that the Houston Texans could use Peterson’s services. The Texans have not yet re-signed Steven Nelson, and while the cornerback room is solid, Peterson’s versatility and veteran savvy would add to it.  Houston might look at Peterson more as a safety for some insurance while rookie Calen Bullock comes along. Either way, it is just one of the possible fits for Peterson.

But he looks back on his time fondly with the Steelers. More than anything, though, Peterson loved playing for Mike Tomlin. That is the biggest reason he expressed on the Jim Rome Show last week that he would want to return to Pittsburgh. His cousin, former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden, even revealed that he would be politicking to get Peterson back into the building.

“We’ve still got time left on the table,” Peterson said on “The Jim Rome Show.” “Hopefully, I can get something done with the Steelers. That’s the team that I definitely want to play for because I have so much respect for Coach Tomlin.”

The Steelers could sign any of the three former slot cornerbacks who used to play for the team, with Peterson being one of them, along with Cam Sutton and Chandon Sullivan. Beyond that, there are other options like K’Waun Williams as well. Pittsburgh has one open roster spot to work with as it stands on the 90-man roster, and that could signal someone like Peterson returning into the fold at some point in the Summer.
