In the world of the NFL, contract negotiations can create plenty of tension, but for Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, at least one voice in the locker room is ringing out loud and clear in his defense.

As the team heads into another season with Stroud under the franchise tag of sorts via his fifth-year option, talks of a long-term extension have reportedly hit some roadblocks.

Stroud’s performance last year was described as uneven, ending with a playoff run that saw too many turnovers. Yet that hasn’t shaken the confidence of those who suit up alongside him every week.

Starting right guard Ed Ingram, now entering his second season with the Texans, made it clear he’s not interested in any outside noise questioning his quarterback. In a recent conversation with KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson, Ingram didn’t hold back.

“I want people to put some respect on my boy No. 7, my boy C.J. Stroud. Think about it: Ever since he’s been here, we’ve been to a playoff every year. This dude is a problem,” Ingram said.

“Been talking to him. He doesn’t let the comments and stuff get to him. Because at the end of the day, we just doing–we doing a job. We just playing a child’s game and making grown-man money. At the end of the day, I have so much faith in the kid, bro. He’s a freaking baller. I know this year, he’s going to lead this team to doing something that we’ve never done before. He’s definitely a problem. I have so much respect for him. Shout out to C.J. Stroud.”

Those are the kind of words that can lift a quarterback’s spirits when the contract situation lingers and critics start circling. Ingram’s comments highlight not just personal loyalty, but a broader sense within the Houston locker room that Stroud remains the guy who can take them to new heights.

The team has made the playoffs in each of his previous seasons, and many believe a bounce-back year in 2026 could reset the conversation around his future pay day.

General manager Nick Caserio surely recognizes the stakes involved. While the organization continues to back Stroud publicly, bridging the gap on contract numbers will take time and likely another strong showing on the field.

In the meantime, having teammates like Ingram publicly vouching for him sends a powerful signal that the support inside the building hasn’t wavered.

It’s a reminder that football, for all its business side, still comes down to belief among the players who actually go to battle together.

Stroud can take comfort knowing his teammate sees him as “a problem” in the best possible way—and fully expects big things ahead.
