Texans Re-Sign Veteran Cornerback D'Angelo Ross
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans are linked to several big-name free agents this off-season. However, general manager Nick Caserio and coach DeMeco Ryans have begun revamping their roster for the 2024 season.

The Texans announced Wednesday morning that the team has re-signed cornerback D'Angelo Ross. The veteran defensive back originally joined the Texans in November 2022. He began his tenure on the practice squad. But due to injuries, Ross had a chance to impact the Texans during the 2023 regular season.

He played 13 games while appearing in 258 defensive snaps. Ross played a role in helping the Texans take a 19-13 victory over the Tennesse Titans on Dec. 17.

"D’Angelo Ross did a really good job of covering," Ryans said after the Texans victory. "Played with speed, played fast, played decisive. So, one positive that I would say was Cam and D’Angelo Ross – the way they played really stood out to me.”

Ross began his career as an undrafted free agent coming out of New Mexico following the 2019 NFL Draft. He signed with the New England Patriots and later joined the Miami Dolphins in 2022.

Despite the addition of Ross, the Texans will still be in need of a cornerback, especially when considering the potential loss of Steven Nelson, who is one of 25 players set to hit free agency in March. Ross was able to fill in for Nelson during the time he was playing through a foot injury.

On Tuesday, the Texans announced that the team signed defensive lineman Marcus Haynes. He is a second-year player who spent last season as part of the Denver Broncos practice squad roster. He signed with the Broncos after going undrafted following the 2023 NFL Draft.
