Texans Sign Former Jets' Safety Prior to Week 14 Head-to-Head Matchup

The Houston Texans have added a veteran safety who brings an additional benefit.

The Texans announced the signing of Adrian Amos to their 53-man roster on Wednesday, less than one week after the New York Jets cut ties with the ninth-year pro.

Conveniently, the Jets are the Texans' next opponent, meaning Amos will be able to share some inside knowledge with his new team ahead of a December 10 return to MetLife Stadium. 

The 30-year-old Amos appeared in 11 games for the Jets this season, making three starts and totaling 23 tackles. He was credited with two stops in New York's 34-13 home loss to Miami on Black Friday, logging only seven defensive snaps at free safety in what wound up being his final appearance for the Green & White. He was officially released on December 2.

Amos, who spent four straight seasons in Green Bay prior to landing in New York, initially joined the Jets in mid-June after presumed starter Chuck Clark suffered an ACL tear on the final day of OTAs. He became expendable when second-year pro Tony Adams nailed down the starting free safety job and Ashtyn Davis emerged as a key contributor.

The Texans opened up two roster spots on Tuesday, waiving defensive end Kerry Hyder Jr. and placing rookie receiver Tank Dell on Injured Reserve. Amos becomes the fourth safety on Houston's 53-man roster, joining starters Jimmie Ward and Jalen Pitre along with Deandre Houston-Carson.

Amos has appeared in 137 regular season games over his NFL career, including 125 starts. He has 10 interceptions and 28 tackles-for-loss to his credit.

The Jets (4-8) and the Texans (7-5) will kick off at 1:00 pm ET on Sunday in East Rutherford.
