Texans taking Deshaun Watson saga 'one day at a time'

Little has officially changed regarding the status of unsettled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson still wants to be traded, is still facing 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints, and is still on Houston's roster but likely won't play another down for the organization.

Texans coach David Culley recently said the team is "day-to-day" regarding Watson's situation, and general manager Nick Caserio offered similar comments when speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

"Each day we’re gonna make the decision we think is best," Caserio explained, per Mark Berman of KRIV (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk). "Again, it’s a one-step process. Deshaun’s been here every day. He’s been in training camp every day. He’s been in the building, he’s been in meetings, he’s been around his teammates. We’re gonna take it one day at a time. I’m not going to get into a lot of speculation about what has happened, what didn’t happen. It’s a waste of everybody’s time, quite frankly, I think there’s more important things to talk about. We’re gonna take it one day at a time, we’re gonna do what we feel is best for our team and organization. I would say there’s no finite answer, no definitive answer here at this point and that’s how we’re gonna handle it."

Texans insider John McClain of the Houston Chronicle added:

The Texans reportedly want roughly three first-round draft picks and a pair of second-round selections for Watson's services. As McClain noted, though, there remain questions about if and/or when the 25-year-old star signal-caller could be made ineligible to play for any period of time via either a suspension or the commissioner's exempt list.

For now, Watson is on track to be a paid healthy scratch each week the Texans play as Tyrod Taylor starts at quarterback.
