Texans TE latest player to blast MetLife Stadium turf

Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan is the latest player to blast the turf at MetLife Stadium after multiple Houston players suffered injuries during Sunday's 30-6 loss at the New York Jets.

"Yeah, man, that turf is trash," Jordan said about the playing surface at MetLife, per Aaron Wilson of Houston television station KPRC 2. "I think everybody in the NFL can somewhat agree on that. That MetLife Stadium is not a fun thing to play on, but got to keep going, though. It’s one of those things, got to find a way to win."

Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud entered the concussion protocol after the back of his head hit the turf during Sunday's rain-soaked contest. Additionally, Texans wide receiver Nico Collins, linebacker Blake Cashman, cornerback Tavierre Thomas and rookie defensive end Will Anderson Jr. all went down with lower-body injuries in the defeat that dropped Houston to 7-6.

Former and current players routinely rip the synthetic turf installed at MetLife Stadium following the 2022 campaign. Late last month, Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland said that the Jets and New York Giants "need to really look into it and invest in a better playing surface for their team and teams around the league" after Miami linebacker Jaelan Phillips suffered a torn Achilles at MetLife.

"It’s hard, it’s slick," Jordan continued. "I mean, the traction doesn’t feel right. I feel like everybody in the NFL can really agree on that. It shows. A lot of guys get hurt on this field every Sunday. There’s no excuse behind it."

The Texans are on the outside looking in of the postseason race right now. As of late Monday morning, the ESPN Football Power Index gave Houston a 48.9% chance to make the playoffs.

"I know a lot of guys are not too big on turf," Texans safety Jimmie Ward added. "I’ve been fortunate enough to not have any serious injuries, but I’m a team player. So, if the majority of the guys don’t like it, then I don’t like it either."

Houston plays at the 4-8 Tennessee Titans Sunday. On Monday morning, oddschecker listed the Texans as two-point underdogs against the Titans.
