Texans To Bring Back Dominique Robinson

Robinson is being re-signed by Houston, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reports. After briefly finding himself off the roster, Robinson will continue preparing for the 2026 campaign on his second career team. This deal is identical to the one agreed to at the start of free agency, per Wilson. As a result, Robinson is once again attached to a one-year pact worth $3MM in base pay and a maximum of $4MM.

$1.5MM was guaranteed on the original Robinson contract, $1MM of which was paid out as a signing bonus. NFL teams often cut veterans close to Week 1 to avoid having their salaries fully lock in, and Robinson is an example on that front. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old will be able to compete for a depth role along the edge in 2026.

While playing out his rookie contract with the Bears, Robinson totaled 46 appearances. That span included eight starts, although seven of them came in 2022. Robinson has yet to surpass 1.5 sacks in a single campaign, which helped explain his modest contract upon reaching the free agent market for the first time in his career. A heavy workload in Houston should not be expected.

The Texans will once again have Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter leading the way in terms of edge rushers for 2026. The team also reunited with Jadeveon Clowney earlier this month, providing another veteran pass rush presence. Robinson will look to chip in as a rotational presence, especially in the wake of Dylan Horton‘s Achilles tear.

After logging a defensive snap share between 22% and 35% over each of the past three years, Robinson is unlikely to find himself in a starting role with Houston. An important backup gig is clearly being eyed by the team given the timing of this return, though.
