The Houston Texans traded defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Johnson, 26, was a second-round draft pick in 2019 and made 19 starts in 44 career games with the Texans. He played both cornerback and safety in the Houston secondary, and struggled to find a permanent role. Earlier in the day on Monday, Johnson indicated the trade was coming and told fans that he asked the team to make the move.

During the 2021 season, Johnson recorded three interceptions and he scored a touchdown during the 2020 playoffs when he recovered a blocked punt against his new team.

Johnson struggled to cover Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce for much of the game, though, and the Chiefs managed to come back from a 24-0 deficit to win, 51-31.
The Texans drafted cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. with the third overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and added safety Jalen Pitre in the second round. The Chiefs also added a cornerback in the first round by selecting Trent McDuffie with the 21st overall pick.
