Texans Work Out RBs Alexander Mattison, Hassan Haskins

Mattison made a name for himself as Dalvin Cook‘s primary backup in Minnesota. The former third-round pick eventually got an opportunity to serve as the Vikings full-time starter in 2023, although he struggled a bit with his efficiency. He averaged only 3.9 yards per attempt that season, and he ultimately finished the campaign with 892 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.

Mattison caught on with the Raiders ahead of the 2024 season but saw his Y/A drop to 3.2. He finished his lone season in Las Vegas with 714 offensive yards and five scores. He joined the Dolphins last offseason but suffered a neck injury in August that required season-ending surgery.

After failing to click in Tennessee (thanks in part to his placement on the Commissioner Exempt List), Haskins spent the past two seasons as an end-of-the-depth-chart option with the Chargers. While he got into 29 games for the organization between 2024 and 2025, he was still limited to only 198 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on 58 touches.

Haskins doesn’t bring the same experience as Mattison, but he has seen more run on special teams. Haskins has returned 28 career kickoffs for 646 yards. He averaged 24.6 yards on his eight returns in 2025.

Joe Mixon never saw the field for the Texans in 2025, and veteran Nick Chubb struggled to do a whole lot during his stint as the starter. The team did get a spark from rookie Woody Marks, and the Texans will pair the second-year RB with offseason acquisition David Montgomery atop the depth chart. Mattison or Haskins could contribute as an RB3, although they’d face some competition from the likes of Jawhar Jordan, Noah Whittington, Joshua Pitsenberger, and Evan Hull.
