Thanksgiving Hope: Why the Dolphins Aren’t Done Yet

Thanksgiving week usually brings reflection, gratitude, and maybe even a little perspective — something Miami Dolphins fans could certainly use right about now. At 2–7, this season was all but over. Yet somehow, the Dolphins have found reasons to keep pushing and are now sitting at 4–7 with some favorable matchups on the horizon. And that alone is something worth being thankful for.

Let’s be honest — plenty of teams in Miami’s position would have checked out by now. Down big in the standings, riddled with injuries, and dealing with the constant noise that comes with unmet expectations, it would’ve been easy for the locker room to splinter or for players to mentally pack it in. But that hasn’t happened. Mike McDaniel, despite the criticism and pressure, has kept this group together. The players are still responding to him and are still playing hard. The two-game winning streak isn’t an accident — it’s the result of a team refusing to quit on its coach or on each other.

And that streak is the next thing to appreciate. Winning in the NFL is never easy — but doing it while at the bottom of the standings and with outside voices calling for changes everywhere? That’s even tougher. Especially when one of those victories came against the Buffalo Bills, a team that has tormented Miami for years. The Dolphins finally got one back, and they earned it.

Momentum doesn’t guarantee anything in this league, but it matters. And now, with the Saints up next and then a divisional matchup against the Jets, it’s not unrealistic to imagine Miami climbing all the way to 6–7 heading into their primetime showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers. A month ago, few would’ve believed that scenario was even possible.

Finally, Dolphins fans should be grateful for Miami’s renewed commitment to the run game. It’s no secret the offense had lost its rhythm earlier in the season. Injuries, inconsistency, and a struggling offensive line made the scheme feel disjointed. But Mike McDaniel has leaned into the sixth-offensive-lineman look and embraced a more physical identity. The results are obvious. The run game is helping control tempo, wearing down defenses, and opening up the rest of the offense. De’Von Achane’s elite speed and vision have reemerged, and the offensive line — once a mess — has steadily improved.

And that’s not even mentioning the key players set to return from IR. Playmakers like Austin Jackson and Darren Waller are inching closer to getting back on the field, and their presence will only benefit the offense heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

While it’s not much, and the only thing that truly matters in the NFL is stacking wins, this past month has given Dolphins fans a reason to tune in and not completely check out. And on Thanksgiving week, we’re going to celebrate the small wins.
