'That’s So Hard to Do;' Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Gets Real on Aaron Rodgers Comparisons

When the Green Bay Packers first traded Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft so that Jordan Love could take over as the starting quarterback, it was a controversial move that may fans and analysts questioned. After all, Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP and one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Of course, many fans were upset when Green Bay opted to move on from Brett Favre in favor of Rodgers all the way back in 2008. Three years later, though, the Packers won the Super Bowl with Rodgers leading the way, erasing any doubt that Green Bay had made the right decision.

Many fans will point out, too, that Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr won his first NFL Championship in his third season with Vince Lombardi as head coach. With this history of a “third year” being a sort of magic number for their quarterbacks, many fans are hopeful that 2025 will see Love lead the Packers back to the Super Bowl (as it is his third year starting).

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Does Not Pay Attention to Aaron Rodgers Comparisons

This week, the Packers have started the voluntary portion of their organized team activities (OTA’s). While his predecessor often skipped these practices in his later years in Green Bay, Love was present to begin working with his offense.

After practice on Wednesday, he was made available to the media to answer a variety of questions. One of these asked him about the expectation many have that he wins a Super Bowl in his third year as the starter, just like Rodgers did.

Winning the Super Bowl certainly is difficult, and the Packers are at the disadvantage of having the youngest team in the NFL for the past two seasons in a row. But while Love may not try to compare himself with Rodgers, it is worth noting the following points:
