The 2024 NFL quarterback class has enjoyed a lot of success at the pro level. All of them have had big moments in the NFL and have all brought a level of hope to franchises that need them. Here is what each one has done so far in their career, and the list will be ranked in order from who I think is best to worst right now.
Jayden Daniels, as of right now, is the best quarterback out of that class. He had an unbelievable rookie season where he threw for 25 touchdowns with a 100.1 passer rating. He led the hapless Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship in his rookie year.
That is unheard of. Daniels’s play earned him the honors of winning the NFL Rookie of the Year award. When he is healthy, Washington always seems to be winning. The only concern about his pro career so far is that he has a frail build, which has led to some injuries. He’s missed time because of them, so that’s one thing to keep an eye on.
Despite all that, his career is off to a great start.
Drake Maye’s numbers were not great in his rookie year, but the eye test does not lie. He looks the part. He is of perfect height and throws a pretty football.
In 2024, Maye threw for 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, but the team around him was not very good. He showed enough flashes to New England Patriots fans who had hope he would flourish in a good situation. He has proven them right this year after the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel as Head Coach and traded for Stefon Diggs.
Maybe this year has thrown for 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions with a 112.5 rating. He has been exceptional, and his name has been mentioned in MVP discussions. Can he lead New England back to the playoffs?
Better yet, can they win that division again?
Bo Nix came onto the scene as a rookie and led the Denver Broncos back to the postseason. A year where he combined for more than 4,000 total yards and 30 touchdowns. He was in the running for NFL Rookie of the Year, along with Daniels, for most of the year.
Nix has been the guy Broncos fans have been waiting for. In year two, he has been a bit of a mixed bag. He has been a bit inconsistent with his play, but still has Denver tied for first in the AFC West at 4-2.
Nix’s biggest critics spoke on his inability to beat good teams and win down the stretch. That was an issue in 2024. In 2025, however, he has remedied some of that in the last two weeks. He’s helped beat the defending champs and has made plays, in both games, down the stretch to pull off the win.
After eight years of missing the playoffs, Nix has them in a good position to have back-to-back appearances.
Caleb Williams has had the most interesting start to his NFL career out of all of them. In his rookie year, the Chicago Bears went 5-12. He showed flashes of brilliance but also took the most sacks in the league.
Williams threw for 20 touchdowns and six interceptions in year one. It’s a promising stat line, but those who watched the game knew he was too inconsistent to be a franchise guy. Chicago needed a coach after Matt Eberflus’s firing to help Williams get good at the fundamentals.
Enter Ben Johnson. He has been just what Williams needed. In year two, he has thrown for nine touchdowns to just two interceptions and has taken 10 sacks in five games. A pace that is much improved from a year ago, when he took 68.
Williams and the Bears have won back-to-back games in the clutch, which was something Chicago always struggled with. He got his signature win on Monday night against Daniels and the Commanders, beating them 25-24. The Bears were in desperate need of a franchise guy, and he might be the answer.
These two quarterbacks have been tough to evaluate because they have played the least. Michael Penix came in late last year after Kirk Cousins was benched. He had some good moments and bad moments, which were expected for an NFL rookie.
Penix’s roller coaster play has continued in 2025. He did, however, get his own signature win, beating the Buffalo Bills on primetime on Monday. It’s hard to say if he will be good as of right now.
For JJ McCarthy, it is even harder to evaluate him. He has played in eight quarters of football and has not looked good in seven of them. The one quarter he did play, though, he had three touchdowns and led the Minnesota Vikings to victory.
The sample size for them is still small, but they’ve shown flashes.
It’s unprecedented to see this many guys at one position in one class to have this much success. Other than McCarthy, none of them looks like they have bust potential. McCarthy is the only one due to his lack of playing time and his struggles in the limited sample size.
How many of them will win a Super Bowl? NFL MVP?
What about both?
