The 3 biggest remaining needs for the Bears heading into Day 2 of the NFL Draft
Dan Rainville / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Chicago Bears have landed their next franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams and then paired him with wide receiver Rome Odunze during the first round of the draft.

There's still more work to be done on Day 2. The Bears currently have just the 75th overall pick in the third round and the 122nd pick in the fourth round to land two more top prospects to continue rounding out the 2024 draft class.

After filling a major hole at quarterback and wide receiver in the first round, here's three positions the Bears could look to target on Day 2.

1. Edge Rusher

The Bears elected to pass on adding an edge rusher in the first round, turning down the opportunity to pair one of the top pass rushers with defensive end Montez Sweat. Just because the team passed on the position on Day 1 doesn’t mean they will again.

This position has always seemed more like a want than a need for the Bears defense but the front office still did a ton of work on the edge rushers in this class. The Bears could still land a prominent edge rusher on Day 2 and snag one of these guys below.

Potential options: Penn State Adisa Isaac, Kansas Austin Booker, Washington Bralen Trice, Colorado State Mohamed Kamara, Western Michigan Marshawn Kneeland

2. Defensive Tackle

After missing out on the top defensive players in the first round in favor of adding a top wide receiver, the Bears are still in the market for some defensive line help.

Now that the offense is set, the Bears will likely address the defensive line on Day 2, either on the edge or in the interior. Here's some Day 2 players to watch out for.

Potential options: Clemson Ruke Orhorhoro, Ohio State Michael Hall Jr., LSU Maason Smith, Florida State Braden Fiske, LSU Mekhi Wingo

3. Interior Offensive Line

The interior of the Bears offensive line is still in rough shape even after adding Coleman Shelton and Ryan Bates this offseason.

The Bears could also look to add some young competition at guard behind Nate Davis and offer some depth in case any injuries happen next season. These players would be on my radar in the third round.

Potential options: West Virginia Zach Frazier, Kansas State Cooper Beebe, Michigan Zak Zinter, Kansas Dominick Puni, Wisconsin Tanor Bortolini, Georgia Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, Arkansas Beaux Limmer

Other Positions in Need of Depth

  • Offensive Tackle: While Braxton Jones is penciled in as the starter, the front office could add some competition for him at left tackle.
  • Tight End: Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron loves his 3-TE sets and the team could add a third tight end to the room with Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett.
  • Cornerback: Never hurts to add bodies to the position, specifically depth at slot.
  • Safety: The Bears added a lot to this room in free agency, but I wouldn’t rule out drafting a defensive back who has experience at multiple positions.
