The 49ers' Injury Report For Thursday Night Is Just Unfair

The San Francisco 49ers will be extremely shorthanded when they take on the Los Angeles Rams this Thursday night, that's for sure.

Earlier this week, San Francisco ruled out starting quarterback Brock Purdy due to a lingering toe injury. He returned to the field in Week 4, but it was pretty clear that he wasn't at full strength. To make matters worse, he reported some soreness following Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Purdy sidelined for the Rams game, the 49ers will need backup quarterback Mac Jones to step up. Although he's dealing with a knee sprain, he feels healthy enough to play.

"Just day-by-day getting better," Jones told reporters. "And at the end of the day, you just have to ask yourself if you can protect yourself in the game, and I felt good to go. So obviously every week guys are dealing with stuff, and it's an every-day battle, so you're just working through it."

Unfortunately for the 49ers, they're not just missing their starting quarterback. Wide receivers Jauan Jennings (ribs, ankle) and Ricky Pearsall (right knee) have been ruled out.

Here are the notable players who won't suit up for the 49ers:

Who will step up for SF?

ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner pointed out that the 49ers won't have a single wide receiver or tight end active this Thursday who caught a pass for them last season.

"SF’s only healthy players with a catch for it in 2024 are RBs Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo, Kyle Juszczyk," Wagoner said.

Juszczyk and McCaffrey will get plenty of chances to make an impact against the Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan might also lean on Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson.

Kickoff for the 49ers-Rams game is at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
